covertures

Sound installation.

covertures is in two versions, an installation version and a concert version. The installation version was to be heard in the Dutch Pavilion in Venice 2011. It is a collection of 48 one minute sound walls that all begin with a voice saying "open" or "closed". These were heard throughout the day in regular intervals of about 8 minutes. The sound walls were based on frozen moments from Monteverdi's "L'incoronazione di Poppea", morphed with the sound of crowds. As if one were hearing the beginning or ending of an opera at the same time, fused together with the sound of the audience.
