saxophone quartet 15' This piece waas written for the TUMB saxophone quartet of Peter van Bergen. It is one of the works which I wrote while staying in Greece in the winter and spring of 1998. Like the other pieces written around this time - I was trying to develop a homophonic music that was constantly on the verge of polyphony. I took the natural time and tempo of speech (words - phrases- sentences- paragraphs) - something that can also be heard in taxim improvisation for instance (or koran recitation) - and composed a polyphonic music where all the parts of the quartet seem to be working to the whole. |
