tinkle spin out

tinkle spin out is a fantasy based on the piano introduction to “Tinkle Trinkle” by Thelonius Monk. The piano figure is slowly spun out through the piece in a hypnotic and obsessive manner - slowly developing but never ceasing. The idea for the piece was inspired by a piece of film footage from the documentary “Straight No Chaser” showing Thelonius Monk spinning around in an airport lobby like some misplaced whirling dervish seeking oblivion. This touching image seemed to offer an insight into the character of Monk's music.
