This piece takes the opening line of Ovid’s Metamorphoses as its point of departure, using it as a framework for an exploration of sonic transformation. A chorale-like sequence is slowly repeated on an electric organ, while three assistants gradually modulate the sound, first through the organ’s registers (in this case, a Yamaha YC-45D), and then by processing the output with pedals and other effects, until the original sound is completely transformed. At the same time, grains and resonances emerging from this process are projected throughout the performance space, where they continue to evolve independently, undergoing their own transformations.
